More shots of the neighborhood around work. Trying out some color alteration and angles this round.

A Little Slice of Austin

Went for a “hike” today at Mt. Bonnel with my sister. It was really more of a quick walk. Very cool view, however. We even met a couple that is going to be married there next Wednesday. They stopped and looked at me funny while I was taking my LEGO shot for the day :) . Anyhow, here’s some various “artistic” shots from one of the highest points in Austin:

Pseudo HDR Walkaround

Took another photography-based lunch break today. Rather than full on HDR, I wanted to see if I could get any decent results with one exposure. All except the last image were processed in Photomatix with only one exposure.

It’s a boot, and a house!

Day 20

“There may be a great fire in our soul, yet no one ever comes to warm himself at it, and the passers-by see only a wisp of smoke.” -Vincent van Gogh

I had to take advantage of the legal fireworks I bought, so we planted a smoke bomb under some dead leafish material. This is an HDR handheld shot and I’m surprised there wasn’t more ghosting. Keep your eyes peeled for more fireworks in the coming shots.

Lunch Photography Session

I finally got around to taking my camera to work just so I could shoot the local neighborhood during lunch break. The sun was out, so I thought I would take advantage and try some HDR handheld shots. This was definitely a learning process, and I got a lot out of it. Next time, bring the tripod :) .

Day 17

Sir Awesome was minding his own business when the sky opened up and a man with a glowing sword and a ’semi-automatic spearchucker’ started raining pain down from the heavens. “All I’ve got is a wooden spear and shield, please spare me,” pleaded Sir Awesome. Captain Pain didn’t care, he was on a mission. . . from the future!

Did some post work to create the blurry, snappy look. Half of it was an accident with the HDR alignment, though. Accidents can be cool.

Day 12

“Pick a card, any card! What do you mean these aren’t real cards?!”

This is a pseudo HDR created from a single RAW file. Unfortunately, the high ISO I used created a ton of noise, which is multiplied by HDR. But, it did work toward the end goal of making this image appear very old.

I’ve always been fascinated by magic, and at a young age I could put on quite a show :).

Radioactive Swamp HDR

I took my pup for a walk at the local “lake” yesterday. It’s actually more of a pond, and this is part of the system, but it has become stagnant. It was almost a neon, pastel green, if that makes sense. A single photograph didn’t do the lighting justice, so I made it HDR using AE +-2 and Photomatix.

HDR is pretty cool

I didn’t know HDR photography existed until a few months ago when a friend of mine took some cool pictures of Scotland (http://www.flickr.com/photos/timothynice/sets/72157617718880164/). When I researched this technique, I ran across a local Austinian’s website (is that what we call them?). To be honest, I’m blown away by his work, and apparently his blog is the #1 travel blog in the world. Pretty amazing.

I probably shouldn’t link this here because I’ll lose what visitors I do have, and he’ll gain more. But, out of respect, here is some awesome HDR photos (you can even buy prints of these): http://www.stuckincustoms.com/

Anyway, I’ve since taken in an interest in HDR photography myself, and these are some of the first I have created: http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidarhodes/sets/72157620616278616/. They definitely seem to be lacking the oompf that I’m looking for, but I’ll get better! :)
